6 best Ibiza sunset spots
There are two sides to Ibiza (well there are actually, there are four but who is counting?) and people go there for all manner of reasons…
But as an island with no big industrial outlets, it relies heavily on its natural environment and tourism to make its honest dollar. And this is one of the many bonuses of the White Isle, as it has arguably, the clearest skies in the Mediterranean.
Most first time visitors head to the west side as it offers the large tourist resort on San Antonio. It is also the place to go for the legendary chill out bars and restaurants, soak up the vibes and the extraordinary sunsets. Here are my six picks for the best sun watching spots…
Café Del Mar
Your Ibiza experience would not be complete without witnessing at least one soul-shaking sunset. And this is the grand-daddy of the ‘chillax’ bars. Founded in 1980 and still going strong, it is only open from 4pm until midnight throughout the summer season. But it is so popular, that you must book a table for some serious cocktails and tick it off your bucket list.
Overlooking the shore of Caló des Moro bay, just kick back and soak up the greatest free show on earth, whilst relaxing to the DJ playing ambient tunes. Perfect for sociables as you will definitely get the wow factor here.
Kumharas
Needless to say, there are many other bars where you can witness the sunset. And Kumharas is no exception. It claims to be the one and only sunset chill out bar on the San Antonio Bay side and transports you back to Ibiza’s hippy roots.
With giant floor cushions and cane tables, this is a beach bar for beach loving folk. Expect fireworks, fire throwers and some serious socializing. Situated at the end of the beach of Cala de Bou, it is a more alternative scene.
Great for the party heads, as the music is pumping every day from 12noon – 4am.
Experimental Beach Ibiza
Think outside the box and consider that Ibiza is actually a large and very beautiful island. So when the clever folk behind London’s Experimental Cocktail Club decided to try their magic with the beautiful people on the island, they struck gold by going off piste!
They claim that the hottest sunset can be seen from the south coast, in particular in Cap des Falco. It is all about experimenting after all. So the bumpy dirt track through the National Park is well worth the experience. The bar-restaurant is set right in heart of the Ses Salines salt flats and boasts views across the Mediterranean to the very tip of Es Vedra. A spectacular sight as the sun sinks into the horizon, to be sure.
Ginger
If you’re a bit of a foodie and fancy munching on some tasty titbits whilst your eyes soak in the sunset, Ginger might be the place for you. Taking inspiration from Asia in both the décor (Chinese armchairs, Balinese umbrellas) and cuisine, this is a hidden gem.
Set off the beaten track, behind Sa Punta, it is tucked into the side of a hill. This doesn’t deter those in the know. With terrace views across the sea to Dalt Vila, it is the perfect place for a low key dinner with your nearest and dearest. Open nightly from 7pm, you can get your fill of delicious dumplings and theoretically head elsewhere for a boogie!
El Chiringuito Beach Club
Next up is a secluded beach bar (and restaurant) right on the white sands of Es Cavallet. El Chiringuito offers views to Dalt Villa (Ibiza old town) to the left and Formentera to the right. It is also Europe’s second ever nudist beach.
Promising opulence, it certainly delivers, and is everything you would expect from a luxury club. Ginormous white day beds welcome you and white-clad waiters are on standby to keep your glass full. All whilst your ears are not neglected by the daytime funky house DJs.
With a menu heavy on seafood (oysters, lobster, squid or prawns), you can lunch in the sunshine and retire to the beautifully presented restaurant for a sit down evening meal. Sit back and watch the sun sink on the horizon and the waves lapping in harmony. Dreamy!
And to work off your dinner, the owners also have a party destination away from the restaurant. Win win!
Ocean Beach Club
If you’re feeling fancy, and have been super organized and booked, you will be overjoyed by a visit to the Pearl Restaurant and Ocean Beach Club.
Offering a sumptuous menu of food and drinks, you can pretend you’re a celebrity as you are escorted to the restaurant via an exclusive VIP entrance on the promenade. Take your time over drinks and soak up the view, whilst sipping champagne at romantic candle-lit sea-facing tables.
