An archipelago of more than 300 islands, Fiji is known for its watersports and white sandy beaches. It’s also home to Cloud 9: a pizzeria floating in the tropical seas.
Located in the crystal clear waters of the Mamanuca Island Group and close to the main island of Fiji, Viti Levu, it is pretty apparent why this bar gained its name. Surrounded by coral reefs, situated in the middle of the ocean and in the balmy temperatures of Fiji, this is the ideal floating platoon to be washed up on.
A secluded bar bobbing about a tropical ocean is already pretty idyllic but throw in pizza and well, we definitely want a slice of that action.. It’s exactly what an exhausted sunbather needs, they’ll even known you up a gluten free slice or two if you ask.
If you’re wondering how to access this particular piece of paradise, the fun really starts from the moment you set out. You can jet ski there, or you can travel by jet boat. Or, perhaps as you’re sailing around the islands you may hear the sounds of their “cutting edge music policy”, and decide to hop aboard.
If you’re waiting for your pizza to be cooked, or maybe you’re waiting for the DJ to play your favourite song, you can always take a snorkel off the side of the bar. We can’t think of much better ways to procrastinate in this isolated wonder.
For the more adventurous you can take tours off Cloud 9 that take you close to the world famous surf break ‘Cloudbreak’, or get star struck as you visit the uninhabited Modriki island that Tom Hanks made famous in Castaway.
Whatever the result of the rugby match, we have to concede that Fiji definitely wins on brilliant ocean bars.
